Slack Notifications for Jira routes issue events to specific Slack channels using rules you define — matched by project and event type, delivered through a standard Slack Incoming Webhook. This page walks through setup end to end.
After installing from Marketplace, go to Jira settings → Apps → Manage apps, or open the Slack Notifications for Jira admin page listed under your site's apps.
Each rule needs a Slack Incoming Webhook URL — a per-channel URL that lets anything with it post a message. No Slack app install or bot token is needed on the Jira side.
https://hooks.slack.com/services/.Repeat this for each channel you want to route events to. A webhook is tied to one channel, so a rule targeting #eng-alerts and another targeting #updates need two separate webhook URLs.
Click Add rule and fill in:
Save the rule and it's active immediately — no redeploy or reinstall needed.
Click Test on any saved rule to post a real message to its Slack channel immediately, independent of any Jira event. Use this to confirm the webhook URL is correct before relying on the rule.
Click Edit on a rule to change its project, events, or webhook URL. Use the enabled/disabled toggle to pause a rule without deleting its configuration, or Delete to remove it entirely.
If Test fails, the error message includes Slack's response — most often this means the webhook URL was mistyped, or the webhook was revoked from the Slack side. Regenerate it from api.slack.com/apps and update the rule.
If a rule doesn't fire on real Jira activity but Test succeeds, check that the rule is enabled and that its project and event-type filters actually match the event you're expecting.
